It houses a collection of extensive general reference materials that are intended to be consulted for a particular question or query rather than read thoroughly. A library's Reference Collection is used to gather together in one convenient location the standard references like encyclopedias, handbooks, and dictionaries that will provide answers to questions on any topic in any field of research. Need to be available for consultation at all times, and are not available for loan.

Scope of the Collection: General Reference Books
- Atlases and gazetteers provide geographical information on any subject area.
- Bibliographies indicate works published during a particular period.
- Bibliographical dictionaries give concise information about important persons in a subject field. These include bibliographies and evaluation of an author's work.
- Dictionaries deal primarily with all aspects of words.
- Directories list names and addresses of persons, organizations or institutions.
- Encyclopedias give an overview of a subject and its research possibilities.
- Handbooks and manuals contain treatise on a special subject written primarily for practitioners.
- Indexes and abstracts locate articles on a particular subject.
- Yearbooks and annuals summarize events of the past years including research projects undertaken and completed.
